This past week, Camilo Villegas won the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in convincing fashion. Firing a final round 68, Villegas won the event by 5 shots (-13 for the event). This was big win for Villegas as although he's been scratching on victory's door this season, he has yet to earn a victory since his win at the Tour Championship in 2008. This win could open up the floodgates for a big 2010 season.

It should also be noted since I didn't start this post untill 6 weeks into the 2010 PGA Tour season, that the first 5 winners on tour this season all depeneded on Titleist Irons. A pretty impressive start to the year for the Titleist brand and all of it's players world-wide!

First off, Scotty Cameron will be introducing two new Studio Select models. A Laguna model as well as an improved Kombi model. These are both exciting introductions to the line for a few reasons. Personally, the Laguna head has always been one of my favorite looks of any Scotty Cameron putter and this one does not disappoint. Scotty is taking all of the classic lines that have made the Laguna so successful and combining them with the already tried and true technology of the Studio Select models. With heel and toe weights ranging from 10g to 20g, each putter is custom built to suit the player's needs. The putter sets up with a very familiar look and feels really solid at impact. This one will for sure end up in my bag this season.

The new Kombi model is a big improvement over last season. A more compact head size gives the putter a much better look at address. The biggest change however, is that the head is now made of the same stainless steel found in the other Studio Select putters. This gives the putter a much more solid and recognizable feel. As the Kombi has evolved since its introduction in 2009, both the look and feel have gotten better and better. This one is the best.

Nike Golf is also introducing a new line of putters called Method. This is big news and is raising a lot of attention around the golf world. Nike's past several offerings in the putter line have left a lot to be desired but the Method line aims to change that.

The Method putter will be available in 5 different head models ranging from a classic Answer style blade to mallet style. Already a Golf Digest Gold Medal Winner, the Method Putters show a lot of promise. The technology in the putter includes precision milled stainless steel combined with Nike's innovative polymer groove technology. This groove technology is designed to optimize the forward roll of the golf ball without sacrificing the feel of a stainless steel face that so many players prefer.

After having a chance to roll all of the new putters in the Method line, I can say that these are hands down the best putters that Nike has ever made. Each model has a very solid feel and the ball seems to roll off the face immediately without any kind of skid or hop. You can expect to see a bunch of these in play on tour this season.

Overall, both Titleist and Nike seem to have some winners on their hands for 2010. To see more pictures of these new putters, click here.

When you first arrive for your lesson the TopGolf Academy Professional will begin by asking some basic questions about your putting game. how many putts on average do you have per round? What type of putt do you struggle with the most? Do you miss putts in a consistent manner? etc... This interview is essential so that the instructor can develop a feel for the player's strengths and weaknesses.

After going through the initial interview process, the equipment in question; ie the putter, is measured. By identifying the length, lie, and loft of the putter, the instructor can determine if there may be any issues due to an improperly fit putter.

Once the player interview and equipment check are complete, the player is ready to go through the SAM Putt Lab Extended Measurement.

The first step is too enter all of the player's information into the system so that all relevant reports can be saved and emailed to the player.

Next, the player's putter is fitted with the sensor triplet. This device emits ultrasonic pulses as the putter moves. These pulses are recorded and analyzed by the SAM Putt Lab software. When fitting the device it is important to make sure that it is positioned as squarely to the putter face as possible. This ensures that the measurement readings are extremely accurate.

Once the triplet is securely in place, the player will setup to a designated postion in preparation for the laser calibration. This laser calibration helps the player to make sure that the putter is aimed precisely at the intended target. Once the calibration process is complete, the SAM Putt Lab software recognizes where the putter "should" be aimed. Any deviation in alignment and the software will be able to recognize inaccurate aim by as little as .01 of a degree. The calibration also helps to show loft at impact, rise angle and impact spot.

The actual measurement itself involves hitting 10 putts from the same location to a target 12 to 15 feet away. Each putt is stored and analyzed by the software. Once all 10 putts have been hit, the Science & Motion software generates a report that illustrates 28 different parameters of the player's putting stroke.

To see the full report that is generated by the Science & Motion software, click here.

Once the extended measurement is complete, both the student and the instructor will be able to clearly identify the major issues with the putting stroke. From there, the instructor will begin to explain the cause and effect of such flaws and be able to assign specific drills designed to fix the problems.

Overall, a putting lesson using the SAM Putt Lab is a much more advanced and efficient way of working your putting stroke.

The rest encourages your wrist to cock properly during the swing, helping improve your swing plane, swing tempo, clubface alignment, impact position, and follow through. For the die-hard golfer, this a great way to work on your game all winter long.

Under $50

Free Personalized Titleist Golf Balls

As the newest offering from Ping Golf in a long line of successful drivers, comes the G15. Ping Golf designed a driver that maximizes forgiveness and distance in one sleek looking package. With a 460cc head made of titanium and an ultra-thin face, the G15 driver allows players to bomb it off the tee without the fear of missing the entire golf course. The G15 comes with the option of a “draw” bias head to help promote a right to left ball flight, or at least a smaller left to right ball flight for the slicer. If you know someone needing forgiveness and distance off the tee, the G15 may be the answer you’re looking for.

Callaway UPro GPS Rangefinder - $399.99

Assuming the price tag doesn’t scare you off; the Callaway UPro is certainly an awesome gift idea for any serious golfer. The UPro gives the player an actual fly-by of each hole on the golf course, which in itself is a great feature. The best part of the UPro is the ability to calculate the exact distance to any spot on the hole with the moveable crosshair. Each hole is an actual picture, rather than just an animate layout. A sleek, compact design and an amazingly clear picture make this device incredibly easy to use. The database of golf courses seems to have to limit either (I have yet to play a course that wasn’t offered).

This is the one gift that every golfer can use. I personally have played with a number of GPS devices and the Callaway UPro rocks them all!

Callaway is also offering a special Holiday Promotion where with the purchase of a UPro you recieve your choice of: X-Forged Wedge, Two Dozen Tour i or Tour ix golf balls, Callaway Stand Bag, Callway sunglasses, or an Odyssey White Hot XG putter.
